It is made up of a long,inclined,spinning cylindrical tube with internal lifters. The material to be dried enters the dryer and as the dryer rotates, the material climbs up the inner wall of the dryer using internal fins and when the material is high enough to roll back, the material to be dried tumbles down into the hot gas stream,
stream going toward the discharge end from the feed end or counter-current flow i.e toward the feed end from the discharge end. This drying device may also handle wet feed in a batch or continuous mode. The second type of heat distribution, known as an indirect-fired dryer, involves heating the shell of the drum.
